Accuracy and speed in numerosity at individuals with dyscalculia
Pražáková, Kateřina ; Špačková, Klára (advisor) ; Kucharská, Anna (referee)
The thesis deals with the topic of dyscalculia, which is officially recognized as a learning disability. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on the current status of knowledge about development of mathematical skills and their disorders in the context of dyscalculia. The empiric part of this thesis describes a research which compares the performances of individuals with dyscalculia and control participants on a range number and numerosity processing tasks. The main goal was to describe the image of possible causes of difficulties. Deficits in the processing of symbolic and nonsymbolic numerosities were observed in group of dyscalculic participants. We conclude that dyscalculia is related to specific disabilities in basic numerical and numerosity processing which affects ability to acquire arithmetical skills. Evaluation of prevalence of specific learning difficulties at schools using sfumato reading method
Čadková Oriničová, Iveta ; Felcmanová, Lenka (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis contains the knowledge gained by analyzing available literature on history, individual types and diagnostics of specific learning disorders, methods of initial reading and writing, and the impact of specific learning disorders on the personality of the child. The practical part of the thesis is a quantitative research carried out by means of a questionnaire survey for the staff of elementary schools in which the method of Sfumato was applied. The aim of the work is evaluation of prevalence of specific learning difficulties - dyslexia in children from the first to the fourth grade at elementary school, where the Sfumato method was chosen for teaching the initial reading. Within the regions of the Czech Republic, the highest incidence of dyslexia is 11.9% in the Moravian-Silesian Region, whereas Prague has the lowest incidence, 3.4%. The lowest incidence of dyslexia was found in pupils in first years, highest in third years. Cross-sectional learning disabilities (SPU 3) were most frequently diagnosed across all years. The research shows that the Sfumato method greatly eliminates the occurrence of severe learning disabilities, up to 0.4%. The overall incidence of dyslexia in the Sfumato method was 6%. Compared with the analytical-synthetic method, both...

Learning Difficulties and Foreign Language Teaching - Lower Secondary Schools
Hrychová, Helena ; Klinka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nováková, Sylva (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on foreign language teaching to children with specific learning difficulties (LD) at Czech lower secondary schools. It aims to define learning difficulties and describe their causes and manifestations in developing individual foreign language skills and sub-skills. Moreover, the work with these children in the school environment is mentioned and the Czech system of educating them is compared to the French one. The practical part surveys the opinions of foreign language teachers on this subject and analyses the techniques they use with these pupils. Special attention is paid to the differences in the approach of teachers at schools with classes specialized in the tuition of children with LD, schools with extensive language teaching and schools with no specialization. The results indicate that the majority of teachers agree with the integration of pupils with LD into mainstream schools and they favour their exemption from second foreign language study. The individual types of schools differ mainly in the approach towards the presentation of new grammar, in the types of exercises used for the development of communication skills and in the forms of testing and evaluation. Only negligible variations were discovered in other areas of research. KEYWORDS specific learning...

Lidová, Lenka ; Rajsiglová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Kortová, Veronika (referee)
The specific learning difficulties (LD) are nowadays frequently discussed topic, which is still more current even at high schools. Teachers should help these students because of their learning difficulties. LD students are not stupid, they just need a little bit different approach in the classroom than the others. This thesis mainly shows various teachers' approaches to students with LD in different schools and different countries. Because I study teaching biology and chemistry, the work is focused on science subjects and on teachers of these subjects. The aim of this paper is also to propose the basic procedures of working with the LD students for high school teachers with the real ideas of possible adaptations in the science class. In order to discuss approaches to the work with LD students it was necessary to prepare an LD overview at first. To achieve the aims of the work we used methods such as literary research, questionnaire survey and interviews with teachers and students. The theoretical part summarizes basic information about various learning difficulties, different approach to LD students in science, the teachers' and classmates' attitudes to LD in various countries and different approaches to integration of LD students in various countries. This thesis concerns with the prevention of specific learning disabillities of children during their start of schooling, using the predictive test battery. The paper's goal is to focus on prediction signals of specific learning disorders and their timely prevention. Conclusion of our thesis is an up-to-date knowledge about preschool phase, school maturity and preparedness of children, knowledge about sub-function deficits, specific learning disabillities, its manifestation and posibilities of timely prevention. Research part's focus point is practical testing and evaluation of sub-functions with the help of diagnostic material named:"learning and writing disability hazards test for preschoolers." Test is undertaken by a group of six children in their mandatory preschool education year and is followed by intervention targeted at discovered areas with defecits. This group is filled in with case studies. After 6 months of intervention, during which the students started attending primary school, a post-test is performed to evaluate achieved results and compare them with a control group consisting of randomly chosen pupils attending first year of primary school as well. By combining theoretical and practical knowledge, we can define risk factors that allow us to predict specific learning disabilities...
